Amon is the masked leader of the Equalists in Korra’s first book. He claims to remove bending and becomes the central threat in the Republic City conflict.
His public argument
Amon appeals to nonbenders who see bending as a source of unequal power. His movement turns that grievance into a campaign against benders, making the first book about both personal danger and the politics of Republic City.
Identity and ability — Book 1 spoilers
Amon is Noatak, a waterbender and bloodbender. His anti-bending public identity conceals his own bending. The reveal explains why his method should not be confused with Aang's energybending simply because both can leave someone unable to bend.
Tarrlok and the family reveal
Noatak and Tarrlok are brothers. Their history matters to the finale and changes the meaning of Amon's claim to stand outside bending power. If you have not finished Book 1, save detailed identity discussions until after episode 12.
Where to follow his story
Watch Book 1: Air in its twelve-episode order. Amon is not the Dark Avatar: that phrase belongs to the Unalaq and Vaatu conflict in Book 2. Steve Blum provides Amon's English voice.
