Korra’s main circle includes Mako, Bolin and Asami, with Tenzin as her airbending teacher. Each book introduces a different central conflict and antagonist.
Team Avatar
- Korra is the Water Tribe Avatar after Aang. Her journey moves from training to questions of authority, identity and recovery.
- Mako is a firebender, pro-bender and later police officer. He is Bolin's older brother.
- Bolin is an earthbender who later develops lavabending. His work and political choices take him beyond the original team arena.
- Asami Sato is a nonbending engineer and business leader. She contributes technical ability and makes consequential choices about her family and allies.
Teachers and the older generation
Tenzin teaches Korra airbending and carries responsibility for Air Nomad culture. He is a son of Aang and Katara. Lin Beifong is Toph's daughter and Republic City's metalbending police chief. Their family connections matter, but each has responsibilities beyond being related to an earlier hero.
Jinora belongs to Tenzin's family and develops an important spiritual role. Spiritual sensitivity does not make her another Avatar.
