Lin Beifong is a metalbender and Republic City’s police chief. She is Toph Beifong’s daughter and an important ally in Korra’s story.
Public duty in Republic City
Lin's position places her between the city's security needs and the unpredictable actions of the Avatar. Her metalbending is tied to a policing tradition that follows Toph's discovery of the technique.
Family history
Lin is one of Toph's daughters; Suyin is her half-sister. Their family conflict receives attention later in the series, so a first-season introduction should not be mistaken for the complete family history.
Following her role
Book 1 establishes her response to the Equalist threat. Later books develop her relationships and the wider metalbending world. Her disagreements with Korra do not reduce her to an antagonist.
Mindy Sterling voices Lin. For a spoiler-light overview of the whole group, use the Korra character directory; for the setting around her work, see the Republic City section of the geography guide.
