Bolin — character guide

The Fire Ferrets

Bolin meets Korra through pro-bending, where he competes with Mako. His warmth and comic timing are prominent, but his later choices also put him inside serious political conflicts.

Earthbending and lavabending

Lavabending becomes part of Bolin's story in Book 3. It is a specialized use of earthbending, not proof that he is secretly a firebender. Being Mako's brother does not require the two to bend the same element.

More than the team's comic relief

Bolin's work in entertainment and his involvement with Kuvira's project give him perspectives the other characters do not share. Watch the later books to see his judgments change as he learns what those institutions are doing.

P. J. Byrne supplies the English voice. For the family relationship, compare Mako's profile; for the order of the political storylines, use the four-book guide.
